Three Executive Directors quit Unity Bank


Three Executive Directors of Unity Bank Plc have reportedly resigned from the bank to pave the way for the bank’s repositioning in line with its new vision to be Nigeria’s retail bank of choice.

The directors include Executive Director (ED), Central, Mr. Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed, Executive Director, South, Mr. Elisha Olanrewaju Fagbohun and Executive Director, North, Ismaila Galadanchi.
A statement signed by the bank’s Head, Corporate Communications, Theodora Amaechi, a copy, which was made available to THISDAY said: “This is part of the deliberate initiatives aimed at meeting the challenges of its new vision.”
Continuing, it said: “In order to adapt its people, structure and processes for greater efficiency in the retail market segment, the bank had earlier in October created a new directorate, Secretariat and Services Directorate, headed by Mrs. Aisha Azumi Abraham, which is strategically positioned to be at the forefront of its strategic resolve to deliver best-in-class service in all areas to all its stakeholders in line with this new vision.”
There are however, speculations that the affected persons may have been relieved of their jobs by the management.
But a source in the bank who spoke to THISDAY in a telephone chat last night insisted the affected directors were not forced to leave the company but resigned voluntarily.
Meanwhile, Galadanchi, the outgoing ED, North joined the bank from inception in 2006 with a rich experience in consulting and banking garnered from Deloitte Haskins & Sells, (firm of Chartered Accountants), Strategic Ideas in Management (Consultants), defunct Allied Bank of Nigeria Plc and Intercity bank. He was largely involved in the consolidation exercise of the bank and is deeply exposed in branch and regional banking, public sector banking and corporate services. He held several key positions within the bank before becoming the ED, North from where he leaves with after 23 years of banking experience.
Also, the outgoing ED, Central, Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed, has traversed the banking sector, working at various times with First Bank of Nigeria Limited, the defunct Afribank, Habib Bank Nigeria Ltd and Intercity Bank. He drew his experience from branch banking and operations, credit and marketing and turnaround management where he achieved recognition for exceptional performance. He was also actively involved in the consolidation processes of Unity Bank Plc and leaves with over 22 years of banking experience.
Olanrewaju, on the other hand, began his career also with the defunct Habib Bank in 1985. He had experience in several key areas of banking ranging from operations to relationship management. Over the years, he has also been privileged to work in former BankPHB and Spring Bank Plc. He had at various times, held leadership positions such as Regional Manager, Regional Director, Internal Managing Director and Executive Director (Lagos & West, Spring bank Plc.). He leaves the bank with over 27 years of experience.
