Obasanjo Aims To Address Leadership Deficit With Youth Leadership Training

The African continent is being faced with the critical challenge of leadership which has slowed down the pace of the socio economic and political development of the continent, hence the
reason why about 300 students from private and public primary and nursery schools in Ogun ,Lagos and Oyo states are being trained for leadership challenges by the Centre for human security, an arm of the Olusegun Obasanjo presidential library, as part of efforts towards addressing the leadership deficit in Africa. At an event held at the International Conference Centre of the library in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, former president Olusegun Obasanjo, unveiled twenty golden rules for young leaders which included patriotism ,need to work for unity and progress of Nigeria, respect for rule of law among others. The former president while addressing the 300 head boys and girls from public and private primary and nursery schools from Oyo, Ogun and Lagos states, advocated the embrace of philosophy of life and core values that are of high standard, including setting good examples among others. While giving his goodwill message at the event, the Ogun state commissioner for education Segun Odubela, asked participating pupils to be good examples of their states, Nigeria and the world at large. The leadership training is expected to be extended to secondary and tertiary institutions in the thirty six states of the federation while about thirty thousand leaders are being expected to be trained by the Centre in the next three years.
