D’Banj Enjoys a Trip to Amsterdam While his House is Allegedly Pasted with Court Summons over Unpaid Bills

For the past few weeks there have been rumours making the rounds that Nigerian entertainer D’Banj has several debts and has been sued.

Last year, a technology company, MindHub Technologies headed by Henry Ojogho claimed he is owing the company N15 million. According to MindHub, D’Banj, also through his company, DKM Media Limited, obtained a loan of over N60 million from them in January 2013, and has not paid back the said sum despite signing an undertaking to do so.

His PR team however debunked the rumours towards the end of last year but it looks like the allegations have resurfaced.

According to Encomium Weekly, D’Banj is so cash strapped that he cannot pay his staff and some of them have quit.

According to NET NG, there are court summons pasted on D’Banj’s Lekki house gate (since December 17) for a court case that is supposed to be held on Monday, January 26.

In all this, D’Banj has been silent and the entertainer is currently in Amsterdam while also planning a mega year this year to mark his 10th anniversary in the music industry.

In the midst of all this election/campaign drama, man must whack and whack well. For this week I decided to show how we can gourmet things up easily and not break the bank. The way to go would be dessert!

Chocolate is probably the most classic form of dessert or sweet. From regular candy bars to decadent chocolate cakes we tend to devour at celebratory times.

Today I wanted to show how you can make a simple chocolate mousse, while using a cheap fruit like pawpaw to make a nice sauce and make an elegant looking dessert.

Zimbabwean Women Demand Harsher Penalties for Sex Offenders

Women in Zimbabwe have today, in Bulawayo, called for tougher penalties for sexual harassment of women.

Their demands are coming after a highly publicized street attack and with police data showing that some offenders have got off with fines as low as 5 dollars in the past.

Gender rights activists led by legislator Jessie Majome, the former Deputy Minister of Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development, have called for minimum mandatory sentences for sex offences.

She said a campaign to crack down on offenders was launched this month after a video of a gang accosting a woman in a mini skirt and stripping her naked in the Country’s capital Harare was posted on social media and went viral. The activist said so far only two of the gang has been arrested and their cases have yet to become before the courts.

The gender rights activist, said with support of other groups such as Women of Zimbabwe Arise (Woza), they are pursuing the issue in the National Assembly with a motion seeking a review of all gender-based violence sentences by setting minimum mandatory sentences.

She also urged the assembly to recommit to a three-year gender based violence strategy agreed in 2012 that aimed to cut violence against women by 20 per cent by this year.

She said, “In June last year, then Vice President Joyce Mujuru released figures from the Zimbabwe police showing 11,000 women were raped between 2012 and March 2014 – 3,571 of them adults and7,411 aged under 16.”

Lagos Court Dissolves 8 Months Old Marriage over Mother-In-Law’s Constant Harassment

An Ikorodu Customary Court has today, Friday 23 January, dissolved an 8-month-old marriage over the constant harassment from the husband’s mother-in-law.

Following constant harassment of Mr. John Obah, 37, by his mother in-law, the Customary Court dissolved his eight-month-old marriage to Gift, 21.

John Obah, a trader, had approached the court asking to divorce his wife over allegations that his mother in-law always came with dangerous weapons to fight him each time they had misunderstanding. He also told the court that his wife did not sleep at home regularly as a house wife.

He said, “My wife often goes to her parents’ house and stay overnight for three times in a week. Anytime I have a misunderstanding with my wife, my mother in-law usually comes to fight me with dangerous weapons. I will be physically abused and my clothes torn by both of them; my mother in-law usually curses me that I will die like a fowl. Upon the incessant threat from my mother in-law, I changed the padlock to the house but they still came to burgle it. Anytime she demands for money and I don’t give it to her, her mother will come to insult me. Although our disputes were later settled by my father in-law but I don’t think I can cope with their continuous troublemaking.”

The estranged wife, and a mother of one, said her husband battered her so much that she usually runs to her parents’ house for safety.

She said, “He doesn’t even respect my parents and he has not been taking good care of me. I am no more interested in the marriage; I want to go back to school.”

The court’s President, Mr. Olu Adebiyi, in his judgment, granted the couple divorce and warned them to refrain from harassing and molesting each other.

He also said the petitioner should pay N5, 000 to the respondent for the monthly upkeep of their only six-month child and that the child should be in the custody of the mother. He also ordered the mother in-law to steer clear of the petitioner’s ways.
