The Gods Are Still Not to Blame is a modern cinematic adaptation of a classical Greek play ‘Oedipus Rex’ and the famous Ola Rotimi play,’The God’s Are Not To Blame’. The movie is a modern dramaturgical experiment about the classical philosophical discourse concerning the concept of destiny and fate element which was started by Sophillus Sophocles (c.496-406 BC) with Oedipus Rex around 430BC by Ola Rotimi (1938-1999) with a title, The Gods are not to Blame in 1968. It justifies the opinion that man is the architect of his own fortune and misfortune. It is a contemporary movie adaptation which the society, setting and language portrays a modernism and realism. It tells the story of a queen mother (Carol King) who tries to save her new born from being killed as suggested by the diviner. The baby was discovered to have a bad destiny-to kill his father and marry his mother. Things however go awry when 28 years after, fate brings the child in contact with his destiny. The movie was directed by Funke Fayoyin and parades quite a good number of stars such as Carol King, Bayo Alawiye, Seun Akindele, Gabriel Afolayan, Gloria Anozie-Young, Ireti Doyle, Kareem Adepoju, Akin Lewis, Bukky Ajayi, Moji Olaiya, Nobert Young, Omowunmi Dada amongst others The movie was written by Otun Rasheed; produced by Mohammed Ayoub and Byron Ene. SAD: 3 dead, 200 injured while writing WASSCE as school building collapses

THREE pupils, including a girl, were killed and hundreds injured on Wednesday when a building in which they were writing the West African Examination Council School Certificate examination (WASCE) collapsed on them. The incident occurred in Alpha Academy, a private secondary school in Mararaba, Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State. Some 560 candidates were writing the examination in Alpha Academy. Many of them complained of the cracks before the building came down on Wednesday. Of the 200 injured candidates, 30 are said to be in critical condition at the CRCN Hospital, Takum, where doctors are battling to save their lives. One of the survivors, Godiya John, 22, who sustained a spinal cord injury, was immediately referred to the National Hospital, Abuja. Donga council chair Capt. Douglas Ndatse (rtd), who confirmed the incident, described the examination hall as a one-storey building. He said the examination was taking place upstairs. Another survivor, simply identified as Ezekiel, said they were waiting for the Biology question paper when the building suddenly came down on them. Ezekiel, who is seriously injured, said the incident occurred at about 6:48pm, more than three hours behind the time scheduled for the examination. “The paper was slated for 3:30pm,” Ezekiel said, attributing the delay to officials. Some 560 candidates are writing the examination in Alpha Academy.

OMG :4 people were reported dead in A building that collapse in Osun state

while three others were injured when a dilapidated building collapsed at Moboreje area of Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State. According to sources, the collapsed building located close to a private secondary school and mosque was said to be in a bad condition until it eventually collapsed. The sources added that the residents were relaxing in front of the building in the evening when the house suddenly collapsed. It was further gathered that only the occupants who had gone to the mosque for the evening prayers escaped the unfortunate incident. Efforts by residents of the area to rescue the victims did not yield any positive result. The victims were later rushed to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Teaching Hospital, Osogbo where four of them were confirmed dead. It was gathered that three other victims were severely injured and were still receiving treatment at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo at press time. After six months of electrifying performances, surprise evictions, tough and thorough training, the third edition of Nigerian Idol the TV reality show has come to an end with 22-year-old Moses Obi-Adigwe declared as winner! After an opening performance from season one winner Yeka Onka, the show started with the host Illrymz introducing the two final contestants Moses and Debbie Debbie Olu-Rise on stage. The 10 other finalists joined them and they all performed together for the last time. Then came solo performances from Debbie and Moses; Debbie performed Tiwa Savage‘s ‘Kele kele love’. Moses performed Bob Marley‘s ‘Redemption song’. They both received a mighty applause from the audience. Also, immediate past winner of Nigerian Idol Mercy thrilled the audience with her performance. D’banj made a surprise appearance on stage and performed his verse of Naeto C’s ‘Tony Montana’ remix, concluding his set with his own single ‘On top of the world’. Other performances came from Nigerian Idol judge and Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti and his band, pop diva and former West African idol contestant Omawumi who gave a superlative performance of her ‘Bottom belle’ single and immediate past winner of Nigerian Idol season two, Mercy. And the moment came, Illyrmz announced Moses as the winner! Interestingly, Moses popularly called ‘Teddy Bear’ made his way to the Top 12 through the wild card selection. Three female undergraduates of Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-Ijebu, Ogun State, who were declared missing have been sighted in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates(UAE), PREMIUM TIMES has learnt. The students, Omoeneme Maureen, Ajao Aminat Romoke and Oludegun Morufat Olayinka, have been missing from the school for several weeks, and had become a source of worry for the college management and their parents. The school authorities and the families of the three100 level French students, had searched various parts of the state including various accidents scenes and mortuaries during the search for the students. There had also been rumours that ritualists might have kidnapped and used the ladies for ulterior actions. One of the girls eventually made contact and told a search party that they were in Dubai to seek greener pastures. When contacted, the Registrar of the College, Tunji Kanimodo, confirmed the story, adding that the students’ action was amazing. Mr. Kanimodo told PREMIUM TIMES that the police had been informed that the girls were in the United Arab Emirates. He said the students had paid their fees and registered for the ongoing academic session before they went missing; and the school authorities would wait for appropriate action by the police before it takes further actions.
