Sanusi Emerges Central Bank Governor of the Year for the Third Time

For the third consecutive time, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Lamido Sanusi, at the weekend emerged the Central Bank Governor of the Year for the Sub-Saharan Africa. The award, which was organised by Emerging Markets Magazine at the prestigious Willard Continental Hotel, Washington DC, United States of America, turned out to be the largest gathering of finance ministers and central bank governors from the emerging economies of Asia, Europe, Middle East and North Africa, South America and Sub-Saharan regions. In a citation, the magazine’s Managing Director, Mr. John Orchard, acknowledged Sanusi’s outstanding performance in driving down inflation from double digit to a single digit of about 8 per cent. Sanusi, he added, has consistently pursued and successfully maintained macroeconomic stability amid the arduous challenges confronting the Nigerian economy. Receiving the award, the CBN Governor, jocularly told the gathering that if it were in a game of football, the award would have been for keeps, having won it three times, back- to-back candor.
